Ohio Fall Getaway – Sugar Creek, OH – Amish Country

This past weekend Joe and I went on a little weekend getaway to Sugar Creek, Ohio for some fall family fun! This is about a 3 1/2 hour drive north from Cincinnati and it is a perfect inexpensive getaway for girlfriends, couples, and families! This whole weekend we learned about the Amish culture and their simple life and I meditated on this scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:11 – “Aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands.” What a beautiful view of life that we modern American so easily let go of and forget. It was a timely and beautiful reminder to lead a quiet life as unto the Lord. We go to Amish Country every year and it is one of our favorite annual getaways–Below are my recommendations on where to stay, where to eat, what to do, Joe and my recommendations, and our pictures from this weekend!

Where to stay: We stay at my Uncle’s A-frame cabin every year and love it! It sets on 25 acres of gorgeous land! If you don’t want to rent an entire house then my recommendation is Carlisle Inn, Carlisle Country Inn, or Miller Manor
Where to eat: We mostly snacked all weekend and ate warm soups in the evenings back at the cabin! We ate a huge batch of our chili! And we grilled out the other night. If you are eating a meals out check out Der Dutchman– delicious Amish cooking and HUGE portions!!
What to do/visit: Troyers Amish Market, Miller’s family bakery Hershbergers Family Bakery & Farm, Sugar Creek Antique & Craft Mall, Heinni’s Cheese tasting room, Yoder’s family farm (A FAVE FROM THIS TRIP!), The Farm, (most Amish places don’t have websites so just google the names to find locations!)
Other Recommendations: My favorite thing to do is just drive around and see all the Amish compounds!!! We pulled off for a little sign this time that said “Local Raw Honey For Sale” and ended up spending time with the owner for almost 2 hours and walked away with some delicious honey, herbs, and food! Drive and explore the beauty of Ohio and it’s people. On Sunday on the drive home we drove a little out of the way to Hocking Hills State Park to do some incredible hikes! It was a great way to end the weekend!
