Saturday night my family and I returned from a week at the beach and it was so much fun! We went to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina with a bunch of our extended family. Hilton Head has always been one of my favorite places to take family vacation – mainly because it brings back such fun memories from my childhood. We used to go every summer with some friends of ours and ever since then it has become a favorite of mine.
This year was no exception – it was full of fun, rest, laughter, relaxation, and SUNSHINE! I don’t really have a super detailed recap to give you because we didn’t do a whole lot of anything except relaxing! It was the perfect vacation!
We arrived Friday night and stayed through the following Saturday. We had 2 gorgeous houses between the 23 of us that we rented in Singleton Beach – a lovely little neighborhood that lines the beach. Pictures of our stunningly beautiful home are below! I could have stayed forever. Between the glorious views, the private dock, the pool and hot tub, and the easy beach access, I was in heaven! The owners left wine and a card to welcome us when we got there, and they did an excellent job of making us feel right at home.
Our days typically looked something like this: wake up, make some breakfast, get ready, walk to the beach for the day – play games, walk to the local tiki bar, lay out, read, etc. – come home, shower, eat dinner, hang out, and repeat. We each took turns doing dinner – the Chaney kids (me, my brothers, sister-in-law, and brother’s girlfriend) got RAVE reviews on our Taco Fiesta – complete with homemade queso, chips and guac, salsa, margaritas, and tacos – chicken, beef, and fish. My parent’s did a seafood broil surf n’ turf night which was also delicious.
Wednesday was my little cousin Molly’s 16th birthday (still trying to figure out how 16 years have happened since she was born!) so we all got dressed up (for the first and only time all week – glorious) and went to Santa Fe, one of our favorite Mexican restaurants on the island. Then, per her request, all 23 of us went putt-putting – here’s where I give major props to my cousin’s hubby, Rickey, who somehow talked the putt-putt people down from a price of $10/person to $4.50/person. Magic. I took 1st place in my little 5-some beating out my older brother, Chris, who is actually good at golf. #word. We ended that night with cake and ice-cream and presents for the birthday girl.
2 other hot spots we couldn’t pass up were Harold’s Diner – a little shack diner at the end of our street with some of the BEST breakfast and lunch on the island, and Rita’s Itialian Ice & Custard. If you’re ever in Hilton Head you NEED to try both of these places…more than once.
We had so much fun just hanging out and relaxing together. There were lots of laughs, lots of loud and late nights, some family Olympics, countless euchre games, and more. And for what it’s worth – my parents were the real MVP’s of this trip. They made it all happen and gave us yet another reason to realize how insanely blessed we are to have grown up with them. They spoiled us rotten and made this vacation one for the books – so Mom and Dad, if you’re reading this – thank you thank you thank you! I don’t say it enough!
Enjoy lots of pictures from the trip below!
