Recently, a lot has been changing in my life. But in the best way possible. To make a long story short, the Lord has been really shifting some things in my heart and in my life and has been preparing me for a change in seasons, but I wasn’t totally sure of what that change was going to look like or when it would come to pass..until now. Things are coming together and making sense and I’m standing in awe as I watch the Lord’s faithfulness and His promises unfold right before my eyes.
A few weeks ago I was getting ready for the day and as I straightened my hair (so random, I know — but this is exactly where I was when the Lord spoke this to me), I was just kind of laughing and thanking Jesus for what He was doing. Like, even when changes can be scary and new and different, there is a peace that comes with resting in the Lord, and I finally had that peace. And as I straightened piece after piece after piece of hair that morning, the Lord so clearly and so sweetly said to me, “When have I ever not given you the absolute best thing I have for you?” I thought about it for a few seconds and came to the conclusion that there never had been a time that the Lord’s grace hadn’t been extended to me in the exact way I had needed it. Not one time. Every earthly blessing, every spiritual revelation, every friendship, etc. had always been exactly what I needed in that particular moment or season. I was blown away — I stopped what I was doing and I whispered a quiet “Not ever, Lord.” And He so tenderly said, “Exactly. And I will never, ever hold out on you.” #cuethetears. YOU GUYS! THIS IS THE GOD WE SERVE. He is a FATHER. He gives his children good gifts. And He will never ever ever ever not give you His absolute best. He just won’t. He will not and cannot hold out on you. Because He loves you with a radical and fierce love unlike anything you will ever know apart from Him. And DANG that’s something to celebrate.
I want to encourage you today that despite what the future might look like for you, or what circumstance you’re facing right now — the Lord knows what’s best. Our earthly eyes cannot even begin to see the supernatural movements of Christ before us. And let’s be clear that the best God has for us is not the same as the best we think He has for us. One of my favorite (and one of the most humbling) scriptures comes from the book of Isaiah in chapter 55. It says this:
I don’t think the way you think.
The way you work isn’t the way I work.
For as the sky soars high above earth,
so the way I work surpasses the way you work,
and the way I think is beyond the way you think.
UM. HELLO. THIS!!!!! His thoughts are so much stinking higher than ours — and THANK GOD FOR THAT, #amiright?! He knows better than we ever will. He gives better gifts than we could ever ask for. And He will never, under any circumstance, hold out on us. And you know what I’m realizing? If I take a few minutes to look back on my life with Jesus, I notice that everything I had going on in any particular season of life was exactly what I needed to grow, to learn, and to make it to where I am now. For you, life might have tried to knock you down a few times. Seasons you’ve gone through might have been harder than anything anyone else might ever endure. But you’re still standing, aren’t you? You’re able to read this right now, right? And that alone is proof of the faithfulness of God.
Look, I don’t know what you’re going through, but I can promise you this: if you choose to let Jesus take you through whatever it is, He’s not going to give you anything less than His very best. Rest in the promise of Psalm 84:11 — No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. Let me say it one more time — NO GOOD THING DOES HE WITHHOLD.
Keep on truckin’ today, my friends. He’s got your best interest in mind and He’s going to do what He has to do to make sure you get the cream of the crop — in every situation. Because that’s the character of the Jesus of the gospel. And the Jesus of the gospel is the very same Jesus that loves you far too hard to give you anything less.
