Choco-dipped Bananas

Let us first begin today by thanking Gwen Stefani for teaching all of us how to spell Bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. We know you’re singing it in your head. Ok, so speaking of Bananas, we are absolutely smitten over this super simple, super adorable “recipe” that we are sharing!

Avenue 126 Chocolate dipped Bananas

For all of our Avenue126 faithful, you ladies know that we love to take ordinary food and drop it into some chocolate, and this is no different. This little treat holds some meaning for us, however. Whenever we are in Kenya, we eat these little mini bananas for dessert almost every night, so while we were reminiscing one afternoon it just came to us. “How good would those little guys be dipped in some CHOCOLATE!?” HELLO! Unfortunately where we’re from, the mini bananas aren’t always super easy to find, so we decided to make use of what we had and we cut regular bananas in half. Voila!

These are SO easy to make. Here’s what you’ll need:
-Bananas (halved)
-Melting Chocolate
-Skewers (cut in half)
-Toppings of your choice (we used sprinkles, coconut, chocolate chips, & crushed pecans)

Here’s how you do it:
Begin by cutting your skewers and bananas in half, and place each banana on a skewer. Make sure to place the skewer into the banana and leave it. Don’t twist it around, don’t pull it out and put it back in, etc. because this makes the hole bigger and causes the skewer to slip out easily. Once each skewer has a banana on it, place them in the freezer for about an hour. This ensures that the skewers are now frozen into the bananas and prevents them from sliding out when you go to dip them. After an hour or so, melt your chocolate. We put our chocolate in a small cup to make dipping easier. Once frozen, remove bananas one at a time from the freezer and dip immediately into your melted chocolate. It will help to have another set of hands there to sprinkle your desired topping over the chocolate because it dries FAST since the bananas are so cold — BUT — if you have to do it by yourself, well got this, girl! Just be quick! Repeat this process until all your little nannerz are dipped and adorable. Place them back in the freezer to set a little while longer and remove them when you’re ready to enjoy! So simple. And WOWZAS these babies are serious YUMZ. (And SHOOT how cute are they!? SO CUTE).

We think these are the perfect little snack or dessert — not too heavy, just enough to curb that little sweet-tooth craving, and plus, it’s FRUIT. (You’re so welcome). Now go get dipping!
