Charleston, SC – A Travel Guide

Okay so this past week Joe had a business trip in Charleston, SC. Now, I LOVE Charleston, as a kid we vacationed a lot in Isle of Palms, SC so I knew if there was any way with my work schedule I wanted to join in on this trip and I am so happy it worked out for me to tag along!!

We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon and we stayed until Thursday afternoon. So we had roughly 2+ days. Here are my recommendations, what we did, and what we loved!

Tuesday evening we headed into downtown Charleston (we stayed in Mt. Pleasant due to the location of Joe’s job) and at dinner ate Husk. Not only did the farm fresh food woo me at Husk but the enchanting southern mansion setting won me over from the start. The menu is seasonal, changes daily, and is DEEE LISSSSSHHH OUS. We started out with a grilled peach + arugula + blueberry salad. Yes I’ll take another helping of that, thank you. And ended with a pear tarte. Which were my favorite things of the night besides the wood fired corn bread on the side of our entrees! I would highly recommend Husk if you are in the Charleston area! We walked around Queen Street after dinner and enjoyed the Charleston Charm.

Wednesday I took an Uber into downtown Charleston on my own for a walking tour I created for myself since Joe was busy with work and also would need the rental car. I started my day with a little quiet study time at Black Tap Coffee. The atmosphere and design were perfection, and my blueberry coconut tea was delightful! I walked from Black Tap though Charleston College Campus to get to Cannon Street. The Campus itself is GORGEOUS and definitely worth wandering through. On Canon street I wandered around and visited Sugar BakeshopMac & Murphy paper storeWild Flour PastryTapio Boba Tea BarCanon Green, and Hominy Grill for a quick lunch! I had so much fun solo exploring eating cupcakes and pastries, sipping tea, browsing through well designed shops and again taking all the Charleston houses and architecture in!

That same evening after Joe got off work we headed downtown and strolled Waterfront Park and The Battery during golden hour! It has gorgeous fountains, charming and huge homes (some dating back to the 1700s!) to gaze at, and it was perfect weather! Joe and I have always loved looking at houses wherever we travel so this was our favorite evening together.

Once the sun set we headed to the Gin Joint for appetizers and cocktails per the recommendation of our dear friends Lee and Abby! (Thanks guys!!) It was so fun! The atmosphere and service were awesome! They have really unique and creative cocktails and they have a menu with adjectives for a bartenders choice! It was like a chef’s table for cocktails! Joe went with Strong and Unusual and I went with Tart and Herbal – it was so fun! They serve great appetizers including the most delicious cheese plates. They were so good we had to order a second round! We went with the Rosey Goat Cheese Board (times two), House made Beef Jerky, and Soft Pretzels with a Sriracha Cheese Sauze. SERIOUS YUMZ. We highly recommend The Gin Joint!!

We wrapped up our time in Charleston with some beach on Sullivan’s Island. (I also highly recommend the beaches and shops on Isle of Palms – we didn’t make it there this trip but I’ve been several times as a kid and it is dreamy! My brother proposed to his wife on these beaches so they are so special to our family!) I also will recommend Edisto Beach for a beach day!

I honestly cannot wait to go back to Charleston, I think its a perfect romantic weekend getaway, girls trip, or family vacation! I’m dying to stay at Zero George and take one of their cooking classes next time time we’re in Charleston!! Also because Joe mostly had our rental car for his work I wasn’t able to hit up two plantations and one garden I had on my plan: Drayton Hall PlantationBoone Hall Plantation, and Cypress Gardens. Next time!
